KAICIID and EULEMA: Building a Platform for European Muslim Leaders

The European Muslim Leaders’ Majlis (EULEMA) has developed into one of the flagship civil society platforms supported by the International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID), an intergovernmental organisation established to advance interreligious and intercultural dialogue in the service of peace and mutual understanding.

KAICIID has supported EULEMA since the network’s informal inception in 2018. Formally registered in Brussels in 2023, EULEMA has grown into a coordinated network of Muslim religious leaders from 24 European countries — imams, scholars, and teachers committed to giving European Islam a coherent, independent voice in the continent’s public and institutional life.

Through this partnership, EULEMA fosters intra-Muslim dialogue among religious authorities across the breadth of Europe while strengthening the Majlis’s engagement with EU institutions, the Council of Europe, and international organisations. The relationship also extends to EULEMA’s cooperation with the Muslim-Jewish Leadership Council (MJLC), a joint initiative of KAICIID promoting Muslim-Jewish solidarity in Europe.

KAICIID’s support reflects its broader commitment to empowering regional dialogue platforms: by providing frameworks and resources for coordination, it enables faith leaders to translate spiritual values into practical contributions to European public life — from countering hate speech and defending religious freedom to promoting social cohesion across diverse communities.
