Sarajevo, October 10th. The European Muslim Leaders Majlis (EULEMA) extends its warmest congratulations and sincere prayers to our Grand Mufti Nedžad Grabus, Vice-President of EULEMA, on his election as Rais al-ulama (Reis-ul-ulema), head of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The electoral body of the Islamic Community, composed of 398 members, gathered in Sarajevo at the Gazi Husrev-beg Library and elected Grand Mufti Grabus by secret ballot with 230 votes. He becomes the 14th Rais al-ulama in the history of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, succeeding Husein efendi Kavazović, and will officially take office on 15 November 2026 at the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque in Sarajevo, for a mandate of seven years.

In his first words after the election, the newly elected Grand Mufti hailed the democratic maturity and the sense of responsibility shown by the Islamic Community, underlining the value of a calm and peaceful transition of leadership. He described the result as a shared success for the Muslims of Bosnia and Herzegovina, of the region and of the diaspora, and called on the community to keep growing and to respond to the challenges of our time with unity, education and service, with particular attention to young people, women and the believers living abroad.

A professor of theology at the Faculty of Islamic Studies in Sarajevo and a respected voice of interreligious dialogue across Europe, Grand Mufti Grabus has long accompanied the work of EULEMA, sharing with the European Muslim religious leaders a vision of Islam rooted in its spiritual tradition and fully engaged in European citizenship.

EULEMA prays that Allah grants him wisdom, strength and blessing in this noble responsibility of spiritual guidance and service, for the good of the Muslims of Bosnia and Herzegovina, of the Islamic Community in Europe and of the whole society.
