Nevzet Porić was born on 5th December in 1977, in Bihać (Bosnia and Herzegovina). He finished the first four grades of primary school in Bosnia and Herzegovina and then continued his education in Slovenia. After finishing primary school, he enrolled in religious school (Madrasa) “Dr. Ahmed Smajlović” in Zagreb (Croatia) in the academic year 1994-5, from which he graduated in 1998. After high school he went to Northern Cyprus. There he spent a year at Eastern Mediterranean University learning English. In the academic year 1999-2000, he enrolled in the Faculty of Islamic Studies in Sarajevo. He graduated in June in 2004 and enrolled in master’s degree, module Islam and Modernity. He received his master’s degree in 2017, on the topic of Translations of the Qur’an and their perception in the Slovenian language. He is preparing a doctoral dissertation on theology in translations of the Koran into Slovenian.

Since July 1st, 2003, he has been the Secretary of the Meshikhat of the Islamic Community in the Republic of Slovenia; since 2011 the Secretary General, and since 2018 the Deputy of Mufti and President of the Meshikhat of the Islamic Community in the Republic of Slovenia. He was a member of the Meshikhat of the Islamic Community in the Republic of Slovenia from 2003 to 2021. He was appointed to the position of Ljubljana Mufti on the proposal of the reis-l-ulema by the Assembly of the Islamic Community on May 29th, 2021. He was elected president of the Meshikhat of the Islamic Community in the Republic of Slovenia on June 19th, 2021. He performed his imam duties in the Ljubljana Jamaat from August 1st, 2005, to May 31st, 2006. From 2014 to 2018 he was a member of the City Council of the City of Ljubljana. From 2013 to 2020 he was the director of the Cultural and Educational Institute Averroes. He was the editor of his editions Coexistence is our path, and Thus spoke the prophet Muhammad. He was a member of the Council of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Dialogue on Religious Freedom. He was the editor-in-chief of the official journal of the Islamic Community in the Republic of Slovenia, Amber. He was also the editor-in-chief of the official website of the Islamic Community in the Republic of Slovenia.

In 2007 he participated in the United States Department of State - International Visitor Leadership Program, and in 2019 he participated again in the same program by the invitation of the United States Department of State as an alumnus.

In the academic year 2018-19 he participated in Qatar University in Doha (Qatar) in the program Arabic for Non-Native Speakers (Arab for foreigners) learning Arabic.

He has participated in various domestic and international conferences and symposia.

He is married and the father of two children.
